Fasprin Frequently Asked Questions

What is the advantage of Fasprin® over other low-dose aspirin products?
Ease of use, requires no water, rapid absorption into the blood stream for pain relief, anti-inflammatory and anti-clotting effects, and pleasant taste. It dissolves in the mouth and not in the stomach.

How can a low-dose Fasprin® help me if I'm experiencing symptoms of a heart attack or stroke?
The rapid absorption of Fasprin® provides anti-clotting benefits and enhances your chances of survival from a stroke or heart attack. Studies show there is a 44% reduction in the incidence of a first heart attack, 25% reduction from a second heart attack and one is 23% less likely to die from the heart attack if on aspirin. Medical professionals claim those on low-dose aspirin had 42% fewer strokes and a better survival rate.

How is Fasprin® different from other low-dose aspirin products?
Fasprin® is absorbed by the lining of the mouth and can inhibit platelet aggregation (blood thinning) in about 3 to 5 minutes. Regular low dosage products have 81 mg of aspirin and the swallowed dose takes longer to enter the bloodstream since it has to be absorbed in the GI tract, then into the liver and finally enter the blood stream. Dr. M. Alberts reported at the American Stroke Association in 2003, that only 50% of those who took an 81 mg aspirin had any blood thinning benefits to protect against heart attacks and stroke.

Fasprin® is low-dose aspirin. What if I have a headache or other aches and pains?
Fasprin® can be taken to relieve headaches. Aspirin is best for mild to moderate pain relief. Most headaches are caused by muscle contractions in the neck and scalp which stimulate the production of arachidonic acid. Aspirin prevents arachidonic acid from producing prostaglandins that cause pain. The sooner one takes aspirin the less pain is produced. One can take 1 to 4 tablets and repeat hourly, not to exceed 20 tablets during a 24-hour period.

Occasionally I have migraine attacks. Will Fasprin® help? How?
Migraine is an inherited disorder with many theories about its cause. It is recommended that one take 1 to 4 Fasprin® tablets for immediate relief, but other medications may be needed if the migraine is severe. Early use of aspirin has shown a benefit for many sufferers, but if the attack is severe, additional medications will be necessary. During a migraine attack, gastric activity and emptying is delayed so absorption of oral tablets may be impaired in the GI tract. Since Fasprin® is absorbed in the mouth, it is not dependent on gastric absorption.

When I have a cold or the flu, I usually take a cold-and-flu product. Will Fasprin® help? How?
Aspirin has anti-inflammatory, antipyretic (lowers temperatures) and analgesic properties. Fasprin® will facilitate rapid absorption over other products. Fasprin® can be used in combination with other products. Check with a pharmacist or medical professional to insure no drug interaction could occur.

Why isn't Fasprin® available in standard 325 mg pain-relief dosage?
Fasprin® is for heart health. Low-dose aspirin, one or two tablets taken daily provides sufficient benefit. Fasprin® is a low-dose (81 mg) tablet to avoid the adverse effects of high-dose (325 mg) aspirin tablets. Low dose aspirin is as effective as the 325 mg for cardio protective benefits.

A swallowed 325 mg aspirin tablet has been shown to reduce platelet aggregation in about 25 minutes. Permanent damage to the heart starts 20 minutes after the initial symptoms of stroke. Fasprin® speed is estimated to be 3 to 5 minutes.

How can I be sure Fasprin® won't upset my stomach or damage my stomach lining?
There is no guarantee that Fasprin® won't upset your stomach or cause damage. Since Fasprin® is absorbed by the lining of the mouth and carried with about 140 blood vessels, no tablet makes contact with the lining of the stomach to cause direct irritation.

I've recovered from a stroke. I already take a low-dose aspirin daily. Why should I take Fasprin®?

  • Fasprin® in easier to use and gets into the blood stream more effectively.
  • Fasprin® reduces the possibility of irritation to the stomach and obtains blood thinning properties. About half of those on low-dose aspirin don't gain the full benefit of blood thinning when they swallow the low-dose aspirin.
  • To insure you are getting the best anti-clotting, cardio protective benefits. Regular low-dose aspirin may not provide the full benefit due to the transit process.

Since I am taking a low-dose aspirin every day and the aspirin effect does build in the system, why is Fasprin® of benefit to me?
Fasprin® provides exceptional anti-clotting cardio protective benefits, since only 50% of those who took a low-dose aspirin received any blood thinning benefits, Fasprin® is a better choice.

What is the difference between Fasprin® and Tylenol, Excedrin, Anacin, Motrin, Aleve, and similar over-the-counter pain relievers?
All of the agents are NSAIDs, but only aspirin offers the most effective blood thinning properties that provide protection from strokes and heart attacks. Many of these NSAIDs are not recommended for use by persons at risk of a heart attack or stroke. The American Heart Association and American Medical Association rate aspirin as the best choice for those at risk of heart attack or stroke.

What is the difference in therapeutic effect between Fasprin® and other non-aspirin analgesic formulas?
Other non-aspirin analgesics may also increase blood pressure.

How can a low-dose Fasprin® help me before a heart attack or stroke?
Those who took aspirin as a preventative, had a 44% reduction in the incidence of a heart attack and a 42% reduction in the incidence of stroke.

Since it dissolves in my mouth, how do I know Fasprin® is getting into my system effectively?
Fast dissolving Fasprin® and chewing an aspirin tablet have been shown to be the best means of getting aspirin into the blood stream. There are a small percentage of persons who are resistant to aspirin.

If I drink water after a Fasprin® tablet dissolves, will it weaken the effect?
No. The bulk of the aspirin will be absorbed by the lining of the mouth and the remainder by the lining of the stomach as a dilute solution.

Why is Fasprin® packaged in a blister pack?
The blister package provides moisture resistance and package stability. Like all orally disintegrating tablets they are moisture and impact sensitive.

Is Fasprin healthy for my mouth or throat with continuous use?
Aspirin can cause irritation to the lining of the mouth over time. Fasprin® incorporates Glucosamine and a Zinc salt to prevent any irritation. Fasprin® mixes with saliva in the mouth and aspirin has been shown to prevent and treat periodontal disease.

How many Fasprin® tablets can I take at a time?
An adult can take 1 to 4 tablets, and repeat hourly, but not to exceed 20 tablets during a 24-hour period.

Why would a doctor recommend Fasprin® over standard low-dose aspirin?
For rapid absorption without the side effects of regular 81 mg tablets.

Why a women's heart health product?
Women's arteries and heart are smaller than a man's. This creates a higher need for a more effective product. A John Hopkins study reports that women have more calcium and fat build-up in the circulatory system than men. Women are very interested in antioxidant and vitamin usage to promote health.

What are the benefits of Fasprin's rapid dissolving technology?
Studies have shown that fast dissolving technologies offer improved user satisfaction, high compliance rates, easier to swallow, and better mouth taste. Over 44% of persons over 50 have problems swallowing tablets.

Where did the idea of low-dosage aspirin start?
Doctors recommended a 1/4 tablet of aspirin. Since a full tablet is 325 mg of aspirin, a low-dosage tablet with a quarter strength is 81 mg of aspirin. The accepted range for low-dosage aspirin is 78 mg to 105 mg of aspirin.
